The Storage Armoire

Well, Aaron's been hard at work building my storage armoire. We created the design based on pictures I found online (and now can't find again!). We tweaked it (of course!) for our needs and so far so good!

Aaron put the hardware on so we could see it and also to get the holes in place before I start painting. There's a little "wrap" (sort of like flat crown molding) that goes around the top and bottom to give it a little more detail and I think that's it before I start painting.

I'm doing a distressed finish using General Finishes Milk Paint. The under layer will be brick red (2 coats) with lamp black as the top coat (sanded through to the red in places). My hope is that it will coordinate with the colors of the great room (where it will live and work), without being too matchy-matchy. I don't really want it to wind up looking like I made it to go in there. I want it to look like I found it to go in there! The final touch will be the glass that goes in the smaller door above the drawers. It's called Morisco and I have to go pick it up from the glass people tomorrow. Here's a sample:
I think it'll be gorgeous!

Maybe I'll have the finished product photos for you in a week. Maybe two. :)

Talk To Me

I blog for myself and my kids and I would do it even if no one else cared, but I do like to hear from you (and think it's a wee bit creepy of you to voyeurize us without my knowing it). So, please leave a comment from time to time, or email me anytime at xawilsons@hotmail.com. Much obliged, I'm sure.
