The Five of Us, Spring 2014

Birthday Blitz

July is a very fun month in our house! Not only does it hold American and Liberian Independence Days, but also our wedding anniversary and Pea's, A's, and Punk's birthdays! Today we celebrated the kiddinkidinks' birthdays with one party. Since we couldn't agree on one theme, we had a Dora (for Pea) Pirate (for Punk) Adventure party. What a blast!

I made each of them their "own" cake. Pea's was homemade chocolate buttermilk cake with the World's Best Frosting. I wanted to put those stick-on candy flowers on the outside, but I couldn't find any! So, I settled for princess crown candles and Dora. Pea turned 4 on July 15, so the extra candle is one to grow on!
Punk's cake was a pirate ship. It wasn't as hard to build as it looks, but it took some time and doing. I used boxed cake mix and tub frosting for this one. So, guests had to choose between looks and substance! ;)Here's the back of the pirate ship. When we were in Chicago and went to the Pirates exhibit at the Field Museum, I learned that there were many different pirate flags, not just the Jolly Roger. So I used one of those instead! Can you see the "canon balls" in one corner and the barrels in the other? Pea was thrilled to be the center of attention and have everyone singing for her alone!Punk liked that part when it was his turn too!

We surprised them this morning with a trampoline in the back yard (from us, Papa and GG, and Tia)--I'll get some video of their first time on it up here soon. Gotta go put my feet up for now!

Talk To Me

I blog for myself and my kids and I would do it even if no one else cared, but I do like to hear from you (and think it's a wee bit creepy of you to voyeurize us without my knowing it). So, please leave a comment from time to time, or email me anytime at xawilsons@hotmail.com. Much obliged, I'm sure.
