The Five of Us, Spring 2014

Road Trip #1

Whewy! What a weekend we had! I'm still recovering. :)

We left early Thursday morning to visit A's dad (hereafter "Papa") and grandfather (hereafter "Grandpa") in Pennsylvania. It was Papa's birthday and he flew over from Oregon to celebrate with his Dad and siblings. We were lucky enough to be invited too!

On the way up, we stopped at our friends' Anna and Mark's to play a little "real" Scrabble and spend the night. Then, we were off again Friday morning. Friday evening was Papa's party and we all dressed up (we didn't bring our camera though! Papa took some pics so maybe I'll get those later). After dinner and cake and ice cream (of course!), the kiddinkidinks got to play with Great Uncle Art who turned out to be a champion rough-houser--right up their alley! Needless to say, they both fell asleep in the car on the way to the hotel!
Saturday we spent the day with Papa at the Crayola Factory. I really didn't expect much. I thought we might be there two hours or so before they got bored. But, there was so much to do and explore! Punk and Pea loved it and stayed until they were closing the place down!
There was a Gingerbread Man theme to everything we did. Here are the best shots! Color Wonder markers and Cars coloring sheets! Wahoo!Fingerpainting. Or whole-hand-painting. Whatever suits your mood. :)Papa wants to help, but Pea thinks she's doing just fine without him!Gotta love the tongue action!Proud Peapod! She made art at the crayon rubbing station.Yep, even Mama got swept up by the need to create!Papa is a great one for giving gifts. He gets such delight out of it, he couldn't bear to send the kiddinkies home with their gifts--he had to see them open them! Pea got a Princess Tiana doll whose skirt lights up and flashes.Punk got a battery-powered monster truck that drives right over things (like hands and bumps in the rug). Good thing Papa thought to bring extra batteries!

Finally, it was time to leave. We headed out for the 9 hour drive home about 9AM Sunday morning. We made it home 13 hours later! But, the kiddinkies did amazingly well (thanks V for the amazing video library!) and it's entirely possible that the crankiest one was the mama.

All in all it was a wonderful trip and confirmed for us that we (still) can do roadtrips! So, guess what? We leave again this Sunday morning for the 16 hour drive to my parents' house in Plainfield, IL! We'll take two days to drive that, of course. Looking forward to meeting my brother's girlfriend and their new puppy and hanging out with the fam for Christmas. Let hope round 2 goes as well as round 1 did!

Talk To Me

I blog for myself and my kids and I would do it even if no one else cared, but I do like to hear from you (and think it's a wee bit creepy of you to voyeurize us without my knowing it). So, please leave a comment from time to time, or email me anytime at xawilsons@hotmail.com. Much obliged, I'm sure.
