So, you know how we throw around the statement, "I have a personal relationship with Jesus"? Have you thought about what that means lately? It sounds very similar to someone saying something like, "I know so-and-so-famous-person personally." What exactly counts as knowing someone personally? How often do you need to spend time with them? Can you just IM them? Can you know someone personally if you've never seen their face, touched their hand, heard their laugh? Can you say "I know so-and-so-famous-person personally" if you went to high school with zem (my sister taught me this gender-neutral singular pronoun) 15 years ago, have zem as your facebook friend, but haven't actually conversed with zem since graduation day? Exactly what constitutes a personal relationship--and do you really have one with Jesus?

Up until November I was getting a little overly cynical and starting to wonder if I believed just because I believed. But, then He showed up, loud and clear, quietly, softly, sweetly. I could be being a heck of a better follower/servant/friend/lover, but I'm so glad He covers my weakness and is faithful even when I'm not. I'm glad I can say, "I know Jesus personally--and He's better than I can say!"
