Fasting and the Kiddinkidinks

What to do with the kids when you're fasting? Well, we're not forcing them to fast, but we also don't have a lot of other stuff in the house. Fortunately, my kiddinkidinks just happen to be pretty good eaters, so they haven't noticed much of a difference. I do have a couple of stories for you, though.

Yesterday I was fixing lunch and asked what they wanted. Pea wanted a burrito (a frozen one--beef and bean). I nuked it for her, then cut it up. Oh man! When I cut that puppy open and the aroma (of a cheap, frozen-nuked burrito!) hit my eager nostrils, it was almost more than I could stand! It smelled soooo good! Luckily, I had an organic black bean dip, tomatoes, and an avacado standing by. Slapped inside a multi-grain wrap, it made a satisfying substitute!

Last night we had Lentil Burgers for dinner. They tasted really great and were very easy to prepare, but the texture was, admittedly, odd. When I cut slices of some cheese we had left-over for the kids, I had another moment of temptation, but muscled through it. One bite and Punk was very upset. He just didn't like it. Pea, on the other hand, gobbled hers up. Punk even told me that "This kind of meat is okay for you and Pea, but I need the real kind of meat. Next time you make burgers, you can make this kind for everyone else, but make sure you have some real meat for me." :)

Today at lunch, Punk decided he would make his own Hot Diggity Dog (using soy dogs, because, yes, a turkey dog--our usual--would tempt me!). He cut the hot dog and arranged the pieces himself. Here it is, decked out with cantaloupe ears, peanut hair, and whole-grain bread paws. Also note the long piece in the middle. Usually this is the nose, but in this case, it's a really big belly!

On another note, my body is responding to the fast. If you don't appreciate body function discussions, this is your cue to sign off until next time! If you're curious, well, here we go. I'm hungry often throughout the day, but it's not bad since I'm mostly home and can just grab something. I can see how it might be difficult to plan enough snacks for a day away at work, though. Secondly, I am sooooo gassy! It feels like every 10 minutes, but I don't think that's true! Another reason it's good to be mostly at home!

Ya, I hear you. Eating healthy and lots of veggis is horrid.

Talk To Me

I blog for myself and my kids and I would do it even if no one else cared, but I do like to hear from you (and think it's a wee bit creepy of you to voyeurize us without my knowing it). So, please leave a comment from time to time, or email me anytime at xawilsons@hotmail.com. Much obliged, I'm sure.
