The Five of Us, Spring 2014

The Five of Us, Spring 2014

Sizes

Well, my sweet babies are growing like nuts and their clothing just can't keep up! It seems that at least once a week I find a piece in each of their dressers that has to be relegated to the give-away pile. So, I've been shopping Ebay for new wardrobes for each of them. I always buy a whole wardrobe for each of them in one big lot and wind up paying less than $3 per piece including the shipping! Sizes are always a concern, though, as we can't try things on, so I found this size chart on the web (of course).

TODDLERS WEIGHT HEIGHT
2T 26-29 lbs. 33-35"
3T 30-34 lbs. 35-37"
4T 34-38 lbs. 37-40"

Everyone always comments on how tall Pea is, and that she's almost as tall as Punk. In actuality, she's 35 inches tall (25th percentile) and he's 38.5 inches (35th percentile). AND, she's gained a pound for every month she's been here and now weighs 28 pounds (35th percentile)! Punk tips the scales at 33 pounds (50th percentile).

So, by height Pea is right between 2T and 3T and quickly heading toward 3T in weight, so that's pretty easy--3T clothes for her for spring/summer. And the 3T jammmies lot I bought her a couple weeks ago fits nicely (her fave, and mine, is the satiny pink nightie with ruffles!) Only problem is... the Ebay wardrobe I like best right now for her is a mix of 3T and 4T. I'm afraid the 4s will be too big for this season (since it'll get cold again so soon) and that they may be too small for next summer (am I being ridiculous to think she'll outgrow 4Ts before she hits her 4th bday?). Guess I'll watch that auction (it still has like 5 days left) and see what else I can find in the meantime. (Parenthetically, I've discovered that the idea of dressing my daughter in shorts is completely unappealing to me. I adore the idea of cute little skirts and skorts and sundresses, but shorts--eeew! Funny, huh?!)

And, Punk's even more of a mystery. His weight puts him solidly in the 3T category, but his height is right in the middle of 4T (despite what you'd think from the percentiles charts!). I guess summer is a good time for him to straddle these two worlds since he'll be wearing shorts and no one will think twice if his ankles show! Most of the pants he wears now are 2Ts (and some 24mo!) and some of them are a little big around the waist! And, much, much too short on the legs, which is what inspired me to start looking for new clothes for him. So, what's a mama to do? I guess I buy the 3Ts for him too and cross the pants bridge come fall.

Well, better get back to the shopping! Wish me luck! :)

hey Rae,
Look on e-bay for gap and gymboree pants that have adjustable waits. They work fab!!! My skinny Jack is in 3 T's this way and his ankles stay covered. Thank you much, I know how indecent a sock showing boy is!!!!

Rachel,
I enjoyed your blog. You remind me of my daughter Rachel (married with a daughter) and how she writes her blog. Thanks for personalizing the AOH reps. :-)

Hi there! I am just trying to get the word out to other families who adopted (or are adopting) from Liberia, that the Charity of the Month for March is a family adopting a little boy named William from Liberia, and who already adopted a little girl named Naomi. I am stylizing blogs for $20 to raise money to go on a mission trip to the Dominican Republic, and $5 of every blog stylized in March will go to their adoption. Thanks so much!

Talk To Me

I blog for myself and my kids and I would do it even if no one else cared, but I do like to hear from you (and think it's a wee bit creepy of you to voyeurize us without my knowing it). So, please leave a comment from time to time, or email me anytime at xawilsons@hotmail.com. Much obliged, I'm sure.
