The Five of Us, Spring 2014

What? I Thought We Weren't Doing Any Projects?

Despite the fact that my hunky, handy husby told me not so long ago that we would not be starting any new projects because he'd be unable to choose fun over working on them, he's accomplished quite a lot in the last handful of weeks!

First he made these little boxes. One for his mom and one for her mom. Most of A's woodworking equipment was given to him by Grandpa (his mom's dad), so they were extremely thrilled to own even a small sample of his expert workmanship. They said they show it off to everyone who sets foot in their little apartment. :) Mom, of course, loves hers too. When A last talked to Dad, he said, "We got your package. Mom......" Aaron said, "Likes it?" And Dad said, "Yeah." Guess A comes by that getting choked up stuff quite naturally!
I'm not sure what all the different exotic woods are, but there are at least three. The lid is bubinga, like the bunkbeds. I just can't get enough of that. It's the most amazing wood I've ever seen in my life! Some day A is going to make Pea a hope chest with it.
Here's my contribution to the project. I cut the green velvet from a cache I have. Wouldn't you say this was the most important part? :)
Then, he started on this while I was away in Chicago. It's the headboard for the guest bed. It's getting an "applique" (quilting term) or onlay (woodworking term) to dress it up a little (it should arrive any day now) and then it'll be ready for me to paint. I'm doing the same technique as on the armoire, but this time green and ivory. Only I don't know which color to make the highlight and which to make the top color! Any advice?

Talk To Me

I blog for myself and my kids and I would do it even if no one else cared, but I do like to hear from you (and think it's a wee bit creepy of you to voyeurize us without my knowing it). So, please leave a comment from time to time, or email me anytime at xawilsons@hotmail.com. Much obliged, I'm sure.
