The Five of Us, Spring 2014
Guest Bed Headboard
While A has been taking a break from project for the summer, he did manage to make the guest room headboard for me. I had to paint it (same deal as the armoire), but he made it. The inspiration came from one we saw in Southern Living. He built it out of pine 2x10s and then we bought the onlay from Rockler. It was quite easy to build.
The paint job was easy too, but there are a lot of layers! Three coats of Basil (green) Milk Paint, one coat of water-base finish, six coats of Antique White (it was extremely thick because of all the pigments, so it was drying too quickly to work with--I had to water it down some, which meant extra coats to cover the green), sanding to antique it, one coat of Ralph Lauren Teastain Glaze, then three more coats of water-base finish.
I love the way it turned out. It gives the bed a "presence" in the room. It looks like it belongs there permanently now. Something about the lack of the headboard made the whole setup seem temporary.
Here are a couple of detail shots so you can see the antiquing and the onlay up close.

Talk To Me
I blog for myself and my kids and I would do it even if no one else cared, but I do like to hear from you (and think it's a wee bit creepy of you to voyeurize us without my knowing it). So, please leave a comment from time to time, or email me anytime at xawilsons@hotmail.com. Much obliged, I'm sure.
