The Five of Us, Spring 2014

Red Light! Green Light!

You know that game kids play where they're all trying to get somewhere the fastest, but one of them keeps yelling "Red light!" or "Green light!" to make them stop or go? I feel like that's a good metaphor for our adoption process. Every time we start going, we get caught by someone yelling "Red light!" unexpectedly.

We got our home study update done and I was told the "Adoptive Family Profile" was the next step, and then we would be on "the list." Well, apparently I missed the email with the AFP in it. It was resent this morning and I was surprised to see it was really only one page long. Okay, so much the better. I filled it in and sent it back.

I quickly received another email saying, "Did we talk about the pictures and birth mother letter to go along with this?" NO!!!! No, we never talked about that. Uuuugh. Well, the examples and instructions are in the mail. We should get them Saturday. As soon as we get them back to the agency, the case workers will begin showing them to birth families. I'm excited about writing the letter and preparing the pictures (and will probably start working on a draft before we get the examples!), but I'm also feeling frustrated that we just can't seem to get to the goal line.

Once we're done with all the things we can control, then the waiting changes. I'm not sure why, but I know that it makes a difference.

Anyway, we should be able to get the final pieces together quite quickly and I'm hoping to be able to post again at the end of next week to say: "We're on The List!" :)

Talk To Me

I blog for myself and my kids and I would do it even if no one else cared, but I do like to hear from you (and think it's a wee bit creepy of you to voyeurize us without my knowing it). So, please leave a comment from time to time, or email me anytime at Much obliged, I'm sure.
